Mix tape. Playlist.

The first one I made was probably in eighth grade, around 1980. I used to make at least one a year, so I would have a record of the music that I loved during that year. I painstakingly recorded cassette tapes for my mom, my dad, my friends. My boyfriend. Even a series of tapes for my best friend's wedding reception music. But mostly I recorded them for me. I listened to the radio for hours poised with the record/play buttons waiting for the first note of the that one song that I had just had to record. While I still have most of those cassettes, I don't even have a cassette player to replay them.

Times have changed of course. The universe has expanded! You don't have to listen to the radio for music (in fact, you really probably shouldn't). Music is everywhere. Obviously the internet, but also in movies, TV shows, magazines, sporting events, commercials! Finding great new interesting music has never been easier or more fun.

When my kids left for college, I thought sending them a custom playlists from mom would be a great way to stay in touch. This blog is for those playlists.

This playlist is the 8th in Series 2 (sophomore year) created for daughter No. 1, over 2000 miles away in freezing Minnesota (snowed today, May 1). She likes folk, contemporary folk, americana, singer/songwriter, alt-county, pop, indie, alternative, and some country.
